Explore the sciences that are the basis of medicine and human biology, including cell biology, physiology, and anatomy. Discover the basic chemical processes of living organisms and the mechanisms of cellular interaction. Learn the physiologic and functional behaviors of organs, the interaction of organ systems and the structural and anatomic relationships that are the basis of modern medicine. Reinforce your learning with hands-on laboratory work.

This certificate is part of a series of four medical engineering certificates, and can be taken individually or as a step toward earning the Master of Medical Engineering degree. Students interested in pursuing the master's degree should visit the Web site for program description and admissions requirements.

What the Program Covers

  • Fundamental molecular and cellular processes that occur in living organisms
  • Microbiological and molecular biological techniques
  • Physiology, functional performance, and interactions of organ systems
  • Physiological and anatomical expressions associated with medical disorders
  • Physiological measurement methods necessary for diagnostic techniques and therapeutic devices
  • Human anatomy, embryology, and clinical anatomy

Benefits

Your fundamental knowledge of the biological sciences, coupled with your background in engineering or other quantitative disciplines will equip you for employment in the biotechnology or medical industry. Credits earned in this certificate can be applied to the Master of Medical Engineering degree if you have been accepted to the master's program.

Who Should Apply

Level: Some Experience
