Approved by the UW College of Engineering Departments of Computer Science & Engineering and Electrical Engineering

Microprocessor-based computing devices are now all around us. At the heart of these systems are embedded programs written in C, C++ or Java; 98 percent of all processors sold today are embedded. Manufacturers are looking for people who can bring new, yet-to-be-imagined ideas to market.

Programmers, engineers and scientists with proficiency in the C or C++ programming languages can develop the knowledge and skills necessary to program in the embedded and real-time systems environment through the Embedded and Real-Time Systems Programming Certificate Program. Participants learn how to design, develop, test/debug and document software for embedded devices.

Upon completion of the program, students have a firm understanding of the embedded systems (hardware/software) development life cycle.

Online Learning Availability

The online learning version of the program will be revised to use the next generation development kit. The next offering of the online program will start in winter 2009.
