The efficient movement of goods around the world takes place through an increasingly high-tech, sophisticated multi-modal process. Having skilled professionals in the supply chain management field in the Pacific Northwest is critical since one out of three jobs in Washington state is dependent upon international trade and Seattle-Tacoma shipping hub is one of the three largest hubs in North America.
Program participants gain preparation for careers in exciting, growing fields where effective global trade, transportation and logistics practices are paramount to career and organizational success. Particular attention is given to the study of activities involved in the flow of goods from point of origin to point of consumption on a global scale. A range of issues are addressed, including:
- management of intermodal connections among maritime, aviation and overland modes of transport
- environmental and energy concerns
- advancements in telecommunications; and
- legal, regulatory and technological infrastructures that facilitate global commerce and transportation.
This program works with leaders in business and government organizations to develop internships and job opportunities. Participants take courses with graduate students primarily in business and engineering fields offered through the Global Trade, Transportation and Logistics Studies Program at the University of Washington.
