Several organizations have awarded the University of Washington for its work in distance and online education. Among them are:
- American Association for Collegiate Independent Study (AACIS). The UW won the Helen Williams Award for Excellence in Collegiate Independent Study from the well-respected American Association for Collegiate Independent Study. The UW won the award for Facilities Life Cycle 2: Design and Construction, a credit class in the online Certificate Program in Facility Management, offered through the College of Built Environments.
- EDUCAUSE. The UWired program providing a forum for experimentation, implementation, assessment, and distribution of mainstream, open standards-based tools and approaches to improve and extend teaching and learning through technology won the 2000 EDUCAUSE Award for Systemic Progress in Teaching and Learning.
- University Continuing Education Association (UCEA). The UW has won several awards from the University Continuing Education Association, including Distinguished Course awards for Introduction to Technical Writing, Introduction to Fiction Writing, Intermediate Nonfiction Writing; and Meritorious Course awards for Introduction and Intermediate C Programming, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
- Media Communications Association. The UW won eight prestigious awards from the Media Communications Association at the 18th Annual Emerald City Awards. The awards came for video work associated with the online Webmaster program and the ResearchChannel.
- American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). Modern Maturity, the magazine of the American Association of Retired Persons, has rated the UW among the top 10 universities in the U.S. offering distance learning education.
