Financial Assistance Information for Matriculated UW Students
Effective October 2008, the University of Washington Office of Student Financial Aid has adjusted its procedures to allow matriculated UW students (students enrolled in a UW degree program) to take online courses and still maintain their eligibility for financial aid. Students who are enrolled (or plan to enroll) in an online course who also plan to receive financial aid will need to sign and submit to the UW Office of Student Financial Aid an Online Course Agreement for each quarter that they are enrolled in an online course. If you have questions, please contact an advisor in your UW academic department or degree program, or the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Matriculated UW students whose financial aid awards do not meet their financial need may be able to borrow up to their cost of attendance from private student loan programs offered by banks and other lenders. See below for additional information on private loans.
Financial Assistance Information for Matriculated UW students and Non-matriculated Students
Matriculated UW students (students enrolled in a UW degree program) whose financial aid awards do not meet their financial need and non-matriculated students (students not enrolled in a UW degree program) may be able to borrow up to their cost of attendance from private student loan programs offered by banks and other lenders.
Alternative student loans typically require a credit check, and often a cosigner. Interest rates are usually based on the prime rate, plus a fixed percentage based on the borrower's or co-signer's credit rating. Repayment terms may offer a deferment of payment while the borrower is enrolled on at least a half-time basis.
Students with an alternative loan must pay their tuition charges when they register for classes. Registration will not be held pending payment, since alternative loan checks are mailed directly to the borrower.
