Libraries and Resources

Borrowing Services

If you have a Student ID (Husky Card), it serves as your library card. If you have not been issued a Husky card you must obtain a UW borrower card to check out materials. To obtain a borrower card, bring your transaction summary to the Library Cashier at Suzzallo Library, or to the circulation desk at any of the UW branch libraries. For hours and locations of all UW Libraries, check here: http://www.lib.washington.edu/about/hours.

You may also mail, fax, or email a pdf copy of your transaction summary to the Library Cashier. Address & other contact information for the Library Cashier Office may be found here: http://www.lib.washington.edu/about/hours/libcashier.html.

You will be given borrowing privileges for the duration of the quarter in which you are enrolled. If your class extends partially into an additional quarter, you will be given borrowing privileges until the end of that quarter.

Connecting to Online Resources

To take advantage of the many resources provided by the Libraries for your research, you will need to be able to connect to the Libraries from your home or office using your UW NetID. Although the UW Libraries Catalog can be accessed by anyone, most of the research databases, electronic journals and e-books are available only to UW students, faculty and staff under licensing agreements with publishers. It is necessary for you to be "authenticated" as a UW student in order to use the licensed resources from an off-campus location. To learn more about the UW NetID, visit the Libraries UW NetID Help page: http://catalog.lib.washington.edu/screens/Helpuwnetid.html

To learn how to connect to research databases, journals and e-books from off campus, visit the Connect from Off-Campus page: http://www.lib.washington.edu/help/connect.html.

Online Learning Students can get help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using our online chat service, Q&A Live. UW Academic Honesty Policy

Students enrolled in UW courses are expected to observe the code of academic honesty required of University of Washington students. Violation of this code can result in various penalties, including a failing grade in the course and, in some cases, disciplinary actions. Instances of academic dishonesty for credit courses will be handled by the University of Washington Committee on Academic Conduct. Instances of academic dishonesty for noncredit courses will be handled by an internal University of Washington Extension Committee on Academic Conduct. Academic dishonesty includes plagiarism, defined as offering the language or ideas of someone else as one's own. Plagiarism may range from failure to credit isolated formulas, sentences or paragraphs to copying entire articles from books, periodicals, speeches or writing of other students. If evidence of academic misconduct is established, students will be given a failing grade for the course and any refund of tuition fees will be denied.
